DIGITAL ENERGY – KEY ENABLER FOR DIGITAL ECONOMIES

Abstract
We know that the demand for energy will keep booming and growing under the pressure of three megatrends, the 3D
1. Decarbonization – which is basically the growth of green energy and the fact that most of the new generation capacity coming online is based on renewables – wind, solar. This is fundamentally revolutionizing the business model of our utility customers
2. Digitalization – which is the proliferation of new data coming from IOT enabled devices (smart meters, sensors) on the grid which is fundamentally altering the way in which the grids are controlled and monitored
3. Decentralization – which is driven by local generation and with the new role of consumers who are also producers and have an active role in the utility ecosystem by becoming prosumers.
Management of this complex emerging energy landscape is one of the key pillars of Industry 4.0 and its future success. Digitization of the power networks is the way forward to address these emerging requirements
